SPEAK UP!

Picture
'Speak Up!’ was a 6-day European training course on youth advocacy, through which participants learnt how to build awareness raising campaign and how they can advocate for the needs of young people.  We were focussing strongly on how local Don Bosco youth centres can join the effort of the Salesians and the Don Bosco Movement in catering for (young) refugees entering Europe.

We used active learning methods throughout the training course introducing them to different human rights aspects of refugees, including an oratory afternoon with young refugees catered for by “Don Bosco Flüchtlingswerk Austria”. Next to this participants learnt different actions they can take to advocacy for their needs. Towards the end of the week participants developed an own campaign, which you can carry out in your local youth centres or national youth organisation.

We used a competence-based approach, building the knowledge (HR, Rights of refugees), the skills (campaign strategies) and attitudes (case studies). We challenged the pax to train their competences in developing a campaign in support of refugees, aimed at different target groups (youth centres, schools, general public), including developing 2 campaign workshops for the pax of the following 2 activities of DB4R.

The Salesianum Don Bosco is a dormitory for students from all over the world. The house is managed by Priest Salesians who welcome young people. Next to the student dormitory, the Salesianum is also the home of the Salesian oratorio "Sale for Alle".  In summer the student dormitory is transformed into a summer hotel. Because the dormitory for students is occupied during the Easter Holidays, the participants will be staying in Do Step Inn Hotel-Hostel (http://www.dostepinn.com/)
